I went even further
I know it is one of the craziest things I did, and it worked like a charm. First, I went after active followers of my client’s competitors. It worked!
I mostly focused on people who love and appreciate the services provided by these competitor accounts.
But, I missed the ones who don’t like the service and have negative feedback on them.
The truth is if someone is already in love with the service provided by my client’s competitor, then it is somewhat hard to pull them off.
But, the ones who are with a broken heart are the ones who are more susceptible. They are the people who are in search of a substitute. So, going after such people was a brilliant idea.

Ask them about the influencers in the niche
No matter what, each and every niche have their own influencers. If it is adult dating or CBD oil, all these niches are swarmed with influencers. Finding influencers bring value to my overall strategy.
This is how I leverage these influencers for my own good. (Actually, it is for my client’s interest)
Let’s say my client is a Yoga Teacher who is doing Yoga classes for women over 40. And there’s this influencer who is doing paid shoutouts for Yoga brands, Teachers. And people don’t pay for shoutouts if they aren’t working form them.
That means from these shoutouts, sponsors are getting business. If we could keep an eye on the followers who are engaging with these shoutouts and do something to grab their attention, we might bring business as well.
So, I started engaging with followers who are actively engaging with these sponsored posts AKA Shoutouts.
My clients were really impressed with this approach. With this simple tweak, my clients could find potential businesses without spending a penny on paid shoutouts.
This method worked not just for business-related clients, but also it did for the people who are looking for fame on Instagram.
If the client is a celebrity, it is always a good idea to go after influencers. Because we are not looking for followers with buying intent, and the engaging followers of the influencers can easily be attracted to another celebrity.
All we have to do is grab their attention by doing Organic interactions such as likes, comments, or following them.
Ask them about the target countries/Areas if any
When you are dealing with businesses that are operating in certain areas/cities, It is always a good idea to go after location-based followers.
If you are especially looking for people from New York, we should go after them using Geotagged posts.
As you may already aware, Instagram won’t allow searching for people based on their country/region or even gender
(Unless we pay Instagram and still not sure they may allow us that much of filtering)
So the trick is to Interact with the people who posted from our desired locations.
My strategy formulated keeping this in mind.
So I go after these geotagged posts and organically interact with the people who posted them and people who are engaging with those posts. I know these steps are time-consuming. Yet, the results are everlasting.
As a side note, I found this.
As these locations are maybe tourist attractions, we may be following people who are tourists and not really residents of these locations. So, we may be getting some “Residual followers.”
But, by far, this has been the best method to find and follow people from these locations.
Story Views + Instagram Reels for more Organic exposure
Insta initially took the idea of stories from Snapchat, right?
But, now, Insta stories are rocking. So do the Instagram Reels. And Reels is how Facebook compete with TikTok.
If we could watch a story, it is evident that it increases our organic reach.
Once I’m done with finding my client’s target audience, then I go after these Stories and Reels.
So, I watch them and engage with them on my client’s behalf.
They worked like a charm, and the truth is, sometimes, they may not bring any new followers at all. But, they ultimately bring lots of engagement. With the right amount of engagement, I have seen my client’s content has been hitting Instagram explore page.
Once the content is on Instagram explore page, that brings the followers and a whole lot of engagement.
I was lucky enough that by that time, I don’t have to pay for Upwork connects. (Connects are digital tokens that require to apply for a job. And now we have to pay for connects. Then, connects were free)
